NYC
my cousin kate lives in brooklyn. so as i was heading north through the city anyways i thought it would be nice to stop and see her. she's lived there for 6 years and i've never gotten to visit. i guess i'm just prone to go west when a bit of vacation time presents itself. in any case, my short visit with kate was wonderful.
kate and i have never really spent any significant time with eachother at all really... at least not in our adulthood. and even as children i was much closer with kate's younger sister, emily, who shares a birthday with my sister and me!
so kate and i spent the evening together. we went down the street for thai food (delicious - my favorite were these mumified shrimp. they were just wrapped in a thin layer of dough and tied with thin egg noodles, they looked like little mumified shrimp). and talked. we just talked. the thing with me is that i just can't talk for long without incorproating my love for Jesus. of course, the fact that i am going to israel to live and study comes up and she listens to me explain why i want to go and what intrigues intrigues me so much about the land and the people. she is intrigued too and thinks it is "so cool" that i am going. i tell her she should come and visit. she says she is turning 30 this year and wanted to go on a big trip to celebrate.
however, leaving nyc the next day certainly left something to be desired in me. something like that the map and the street signs would share the same name for roads! somehow i found myself in downtown manhattan on park ave! i finally made it out and wound up in the bronx. but it was exciting still, i got to see yankee stadium up close. by the time i was traveling comfortably on i-684 north it had been 3.5 hours since i left kate's apt in brooklyn. and my calves were BURNING (anyone who's driven a stick in bumper to bumper can relate! haha).
so it was one of those things that it is fun to say that i've done... but i never want to do again!
p.s. i booked my tix for israel today and as the days continue to pass moving there is becoming more and more of a reality. i went with my friend lisa to a women's Bible study last night and the prayed a anointing on me. it was good.
