i had a dream

i had a dream last week.
i used to play hockey. once, when i was 16 or 17 i tried out for an olympic development team. it was fun. i played my best, and i was far from the worst player on the ice, but it was clear that i wasn't as gifted as a lot of the other girls. so i wasn't so suprised when i didn't make the team. and i was ok. soccer was my sport. hockey was always just fun. i never had formal training in hockey. sometimes i wonder what kind of an athlete i would have been if there was a coach who would have seen my heart and passion and invested in me... i wander about a lot of things.
ok, that was all real.
now here is the dream: 3 years after i didn't make the team, i am trying out again. the coaches see me coming into the locker room before hand. they remember me. they smile, "foose? back again? you been training?" i smile, "no. i just love to play." i hadn't trained because 3 years ago my dream had been crushed and i figured that was my only chance. i knew there were other teams, but this was the olympics - my dream. i didn't want to play for anyone else. after 3 years i just missed playing. i realized that i let the coaches opinion of me outweigh my opinion of me and God's. if God had created me to be a hockey player - there wasn't any real way they could stop me. so i played my heart out again. i was a little rusty. and again, i wasn't the best or the worst. but after the try out while the coach was calling out the names of the girls who were cut - she didn't call my name!! when we were dismissed i rushed up to her to make sure there wasn't a mistake. she smiled "i like your heart, we'll see how it goes." not the pep talk of the century, but i was on the team!
there was a rush to our first training camp and we had to meet back the next day. everything was a rush and i was moving in slow motion (cause in dreams, all matters of urgency force us to move slowly). the thing is, since i didn't make the team 3 years ago i sold all my equipment and tried out using borrowed equipment. but now that i made the team i needed to find my own equipment, i couldn't to to work using borrowed gear. i needed my own stick and pants and shoulder pads. i was late for our first practice and when i went in to find the coach and explain why i wasn't prepared, she was there with another girl beside her... my replacement? she had all of the equipment and skill necessary (i remembered her from the tryout - by skill alone she was better than me). i didn't cry. i just looked at the coach and said, 'look, i know i wasn't prepared. the last time i was here 3 years ago i was ready... but this is my dream. 'and sure, she is potentially slightly more skilled than i am' (i exactly remember saying this in my dream because it is so something i would actually say!), but she and no one else on this team has a heart like mine. and that is what you saw in me when you chose me over her that day. and that is still alive and beating in me, whether i have all the right equipment or not. and you can't take that away from me."coach smiled and kept us both on the team to learn off eachother. but i had to fight for it.
my interview with the cco (an organization i applied to work for 3 years ago) is this thursday. will you pray that i will show up (on the phone) equipped? and if i'm not entirely, will you pray that they see my heart?

Don't worry- God gave you a wonderful gift and strength in your heart. They would have to be blind not to see it! Have faith in the strength God gave you. I will pray as I know He likes it when we do!
